Biography:

Mary Stuart Masterson was born on June 28, 1966 in New York City, New York, U.S.. During her teenage years, she studied at the Stagedoor Manor Performing Arts Training Center. She later studied anthropology at New York University, though she didn’t finish her degree. She had initially made her acting debut as a child in the 1975 film The Stepford Wives.

Her next role came ten years later with 1985’s Heaven Help Us. Subsequently, she gained recognition for starring in the movies At Close Range, Some Kind of Wonderful, and Chances Are. The following decade, she made noted performances in Fried Green Tomatoes and Benny & Joon. On television, she’s best known for playing the title role on Kate Brasher, Dr. Rebecca Hendrix on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and as Heather Centrella on Waterfront.
