Sam Underwood was born on 4 August 1987 in Woking, Surrey, United Kingdom. In 2006, he went to the US to attend the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. He graduated two years later. He started acting professionally in 2010 by performing in numerous stage productions. In 2013, he made his television debut as Martin Krupp in the series Zero Hour. He next appeared in the shows Dexter and Homeland.
Around the same time, he made his cinematic debut in the movie The Last Keepers. From 2014 to 2015, he played the dual roles of Luke and Mark Gray in The Following. After this, he appeared in the feature Hello Again. More recently, he played the role of Jake Otto in the AMC series Fear the Walking Dead. This gained him further recognition as a television actor.
