Rita Moreno is a Puerto Rican actress, singer, and dancer. She started her Hollywood career in the 1950s, debuting in the film So Young, So Bad. In the 1960s, she gained recognition for her role as Anita in West Side Story. For her performance, she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. The following decade, she garnered fame for her role as Googie Gomez in the movie The Ritz. During this period, she also starred in the TV series The Electric Company. In the 1980s, she played Violet Newstead in the TV show 9 to 5, earning her a Primetime Emmy nomination. She continued her career in the 1990s, playing Angie Corea in The Cosby Mysteries and Sister Peter Marie Reimondo in Oz. As of 2017, she stars as Lydia in the TV series One Day at a Time.
