Jussie Smollett was born on June 21, 1982 in Santa Rosa, California, U.S. His professional acting career began when he was a kid. In 1991, he made his debut in the TV movie A Little Piece of Heaven. The following year, he gained fame for starring as Terry Hall in the movie The Mighty Ducks. He next starred in the movie North released in 1994.

On television, he got his first starring role as Jesse Jerrico in On Our Own. After taking a long break, he returned in the 2010s as an adult. He starred in the movie The Skinny, followed by another film Ask Me Anything. In 2015, he started starring as Jamal Lyon in the television series Empire. This year, he had roles in the movies Alien: Covenant and Marshall.
