Charlotte Gainsbourg is an English-French actress. She has been acting since the 1980s, initially appearing in some French films. In 1985, she starred in the film An Impudent Girl For her role, she won the César Award for Most Promising Actress. She next played the title role in the film Charlotte for Ever. In the 1990s, she had roles in the British film The Cement Garden and the psychological thriller The Intruder.
Gainsbourg then played the title role in 1996’s Jane Eyre. In 2000, she portrayed Fantine in the miniseries Les Misérables. In the 2000s, she became known for her performances in the films 21 Grams and The City of Your Final Destination. In the 2010s, the actress starred in Lars von Trier’s Melancholia and Nymphomaniac. She went on to star as Dr. Catherine Marceaux in Independence Day: Resurgence and Rakel Fauke in The Snowman.
