Rinko Kikuchi is a Japanese actress. She started her acting career back in her native Japan. She made her breakthrough in 2006 after landing the role of Chieko Wataya in the Hollywood film Babel. For her role here, she received many nominations, including an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. After this she continued working in Japanese films, including the movie adaptation of the novel Norwegian Wood. In the 2010s, she starred in the Hollywood films Pacific Rim, 47 Ronin, and Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter. Her role in Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter got her an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Actress. She will reprise her role as Mako Mori in the upcoming movie Pacific Rim: Uprising.
