Hollywood actor Lou Diamond Phillips debuted in the 1980s, initially playing small roles on TV and film. His portrayal of Ritchie Valens in the 1987 film in the biographical film La Bamba garnered him significant attention. He next played the lead in the 1988 movie Dakota. He next starred in the film Stand and Deliver, a role that won him the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Male.

He also received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor. At the same time, he portrayed Jose Chavez y Chavez in Young Guns. He reprised his role in the 1990 sequel Young Guns II. He went on to have starring roles in several films, including The Dark Wind, Shadow of the Wolf, Extreme Justice, Courage Under Fire, and Brokedown Palace, among others. In the 2000s, he starred as John Kanin / Noah Cassidy in the TV series Wolf Lake.

This was followed by roles in the films Stark Raving Mad and Hollywood Homicide. He went on to play recurring character Agent Ian Edgerton in the CBS crime drama series Numb3rs. In 2008, he portrayed Mario Monje in the film Che: Part Two. From 2009 to 2011, Phillips played Colonel David Telford in Stargate Universe. The actor also became best known for his role as Henry Standing Bear in the A&E series Longmire. As of 2019, he stars as Gil Arroyo in the Fox series Prodigal Son.

Already nearing his 60s, Lou Diamond Phillips keeps in good shape by exercising on a regular basis. Apart from sticking to proper nutrition, he swears by an active lifestyle that’s comprised of his regular workout routine and some fun outdoor activities. As for his fitness regimen, he keeps it basic and simple combining cardio and moderate strength training. He swears by hiking, running and swimming, as well as playing sports from time to time.
