Biography:

Jake Gyllenhaal was born on December 19, 1980 in Los Angeles, California. His father is director Stephen Gyllenhaal and his mother is screenwriter Naomi Foner. He began acting at the age of 10.

In 1999, he played his first lead role in the film October Sky. He then played as the title character in the independent cult hit Donnie Darko.

He gained further acclaim for his roles in such films as The Good Girl, Bubble Boy, Proof, Moonlight Mile and Jarhead. In 2005, he portrayed Jack Twist in Ang Lee’s Brokeback Mountain, for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
