Biography:

Elizabeth McGovern was born on July 18, 1961 in Evanston, Illinois, USA. She attended The Oakwood School in North Hollywood, and it was there that she started acting in plays.

She then studied acting at the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco and at the Juilliard School in New York City.

She made her film debut in the 1980 film Ordinary People. The following year, she starred in the film Ragtime, for which she earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

She gained further prominence in such films as Once Upon a Time in America and Johnny Handsome.
