Dianne Wiest is an American actress. She has been acting since the 1970s. She debuted in the film Zalmen: or, The Madness of God. She next portrayed Elizabeth Gertrude Stern in the TV movie Great Performances: Out of Our Father’s House. In 1980, she made her film debut in It’s My Turn. She later gained acclaim for her performance as Holly in the 1986 movie Hannah and Her Sisters.
For her role, she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She later starred as Helen Buckman in the film Parenthood, getting another Academy Award nomination. Her performance in 1994’s Bullets over Broadway snagged her another award at the Oscars. She later starred in The Birdcage, Practical Magic, and The Horse Whisperer. In the 2000s, she starred in I Am Sam, Dan in Real Life, and Synecdoche, New York. On TV, she starred as Dr. Gina Toll in In Treatment and Joan Short in Life in Pieces.
