Chris Cooper is an American actor. His acting career became active in the 1990s. He was first noticed for his performance in the movie Lone Star. He next had supporting roles in such films as A Time to Kill, The Horse Whisperer, and October Sky. He then became known for his role as Colonel Frank Fitts in American Beauty. The following decade, he played Alexander Conklin in The Bourne Identity. He later won Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards for his role as John Laroche in Adaptation. The rest of the 2000s saw him star in the films Jarheads, Syriana, and New York, I Love You. In the 2010s, he starred in the movies August: Osage County, Demolition, and Live by Night. He also portrayed J.D. Salinger in the movie Coming Through the Rye.
