Candice Bergen is an American actress. Her career started in the 1960s, first debuting in the 1966 film The Group. She next had her first TV appearance in Coronet Blue. In 1979, she starred in the film Starting Over, for which she got an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Her major breakthrough came during the 1980s, playing the titular character on the CBS sitcom Murphy Brown.
For her performance, she won 5 Primetime Emmy and 2 Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy Series. The show was recently revived in 2018, prompting her to reprise her role. In the 2000s, she was best known for her role as Shirley Schmidt on the legal drama series Boston Legal. In the movies, she’s had notable performances in Miss Congeniality (2000), Sweet Home Alabama (2002), The Women (2008), Bride Wars (2009), and Book Club (2018).
