Biography:

Laura Benanti was born on July 15, 1979 in New York City, New York, United States. She was interested in musical theatre from when she was young, her mother being a former actress. She began performing in school productions and made her professional stage debut a year after graduating from high school in 1998 in the Broadway production of The Sound of Music.

She has since starred in other famous Broadway shows and even won a Tony Award for her performance in the Broadway revival of Gypsy in 2008. She has also ventured into television, being a regular cast on the short-lived show Starved in 2005 and being on the movies Take the Lead and Falling for Grace. In the late 2000s, she played a recurring character in Eli Stone. She has since had notable roles in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Go On, Royal Pains, Nashville, and Supergirl.
