Laura Morante was born on August 21, 1956 in Santa Fiora, Italy. She began her career as a dancer and went on to become a theatre actress before her film debut in Oggetti Smarriti (Lost Belongings) directed by Giuseppe Bertolucci.
She followed this with another notable role in the film La Tragedia di un uomo ridicolo (The Tragedy of a Ridiculous Man) directed by Bernardo Bertolucci. Under the guidance and support of the two Bertolucci brothers, her career has since flourished.
In 2002, she starred in John Malkovich’s directorial debut, The Dancer Upstairs, and gained significant attention for her role in the film Molière.
