Julia Garner was born on February 1, 1994 in The Bronx, New York, US. She was shy when she was younger, for which she had acting classes to overcome it. When she was 17, she made her acting debut on stage. In 2011, she made her cinematic debut in the independent film Martha Marcy May Marlene. The following year, she had three films: Electrick Children, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and Not Fade Away.

Her next movie was in the horror film The Last Exorcism Part II. She then played the role of Marcie in the movie Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.
