Emayatzy Corinealdi was born on January 14, 1980 in Fort Knox, Kentucky, U.S.. She first training at the Actor’s Training Studio in New Jersey. She next studied at the William Esper Studio in New York City. During her beginnings, she appeared in short films and independent features. Her debut was in the 2003 movie Pretty Lady. She also had an uncredited role in the film Beauty Shop.

In 2007, she made her television debut in 4 episodes of the soap opera The Young and the Restless. She next starred on the TV movie The Nanny Express. In the 2010s, she guest starred in an episode of Romantically Challenged. She then gained significant attention for starring in the film Middle of Nowhere where her acting was praised. Her most recent work in the movies was in The Invitation and Miles Ahead. From 2014 to 2017, she also starred as Tessie Graham on Hand of God.
