Jada Pinkett Smith was born on September 18, 1971 in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. She attended the Baltimore School for the Arts where she majored in dance and theatre, graduating in 1989.

She began her acting career when she guest starred in the sitcom True Colors. She then made appearances in other TV shows such as Doogie Howser, M.D., 21 Jump Street, and earned her bigger role as Lena James in the sitcom A Different World.

In 2003, she was cast as Niobe in the films The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. The role earned her further prominence worldwide.
