Biography:

Heike Makatsch was born on August 13, 1971 in Düsseldorf, Germany. She attended University of Düsseldorf where she studied politics and sociology and stayed for four semesters.

In 1993, she began her television career after landing a job as a host for the music channel VIVA. Three years after, she made her film debut with the 1996 German feature Männerpension.

She then gained wider recognition abroad after being cast in the 2002 film Resident Evil. The following year, she was cast in the British romantic comedy film Love Actually. Other film work includes A Sound of Thunder, Hilde and The Book Thief.
